Other Helpful Hints
1. Check the weather report. Walking in the city is fun but bad weather makes it harder to walk, find a cab or wait for a bus.
2. Not all garage facilities are open 24 hours. Check the posted hours on the wall of the garage or check our website by location.
Winter Driving Tips from MarcParc
- Consider packing a winter survival kit to include a blanket, warm clothing such as sweats or long johns, gloves, boots and a flash light. And keep another kit in your trunk to include safety flares, reflective triangles, a snow shovel, spare set of windshield washer blades, and ice scraper with a snow brush attached.
- Check your battery and have your vehicle serviced annually.
- Maintain at least a half of tank of fuel no matter the time of year, especially during the winter months. Did you know that in the winter, any water in your fuel has the potential to freeze? With more fuel in your car, it minimizes the chances of running out of fuel and fuel freezing in your tank.
- Should your locks become frozen, fill a container with lukewarm water and pour it on the lock. This should melt the ice away enough for you to insert your key and unlock the door. And never pour hot water on windows, as they may crack.
- Be sure to check all lights and windshield wipers and replace if necessary.
- Before driving, clear all ice and snow off of all glass, mirrors, lights and license plates. Use your window defrosters. Check your windshield wipers to see if they move freely and make full contact with the windshield.
- If the street is covered in snow be sure to drive in someone else's tracks for better traction and keep your speed steady and slow - but not too slow because in deeper snow, it is often necessary to use the car's momentum to keep moving.
- If you begin to skid, remember, take your foot off of the gas, don't apply the brakes and don’t make any sudden moves. Remember that bridges and overpasses freeze first. Slow down and avoid sudden changes in speed or direction.
- If you get stuck in the snow, straighten your wheels and accelerate slowly and try to avoid spinning your tires.
